In February 2008, members of Tanzania’s Parliament unanimously passed the HIV and AIDS (Prevention and Control) Act. The act, signed into law by the president on April 4, provides for HIV prevention, care, and treatment and protects the rights of people living with HIV (PLHIV). It also defines the roles and responsibilities of all sectors in addressing HIV. The proposed bill moved through Parliament swiftly, having had its first reading in November 2007.
